In warmer parts of Australia it can be weed and the toxic flowers are dangerous to native animals. The root is also very toxic. (Wikipedia) - Its beauty is quite deceiving.
Another pic from Mum's extensive collection of beautiful plants. This is Gloriosa Rothschildiana a lily originating in South Africa and India. Its name, Gloriosa, means full of glory. I tried growing this once but didn't give it the attention it needed to survive in our cool climate. Mum, on the other hand, considers it a challenge to grow difficult plants and usually succeeds.

It's our grandson's second birthday today so we are having a family BBQ. This is my contribution to desert - I call it "Cheat's Pavlova".
This lovely seat was made by my brother using the head of an old bed. It sits in Mum's garden as you walk towards the back door. Many people have offered it a new home.
More wildlife found its way inside so these pictures were taken as it settled on the back of the drapes. I'm wondering if this is the culprit who is responsible for the giant caterpillars (see day #5) that eat the gum trees.
The collage is thanks to @brittgow 's timely tweet about Photovisi,a photo-collage program, as I was beginning to post today's photo. I thought I would give it a try and found it was very easy to use with lots of layout and design options. Best of all a log-in wasn't required. Perfect for school! The Jacobean Lily - Sprekelia formosissima
This is commonly known as Jacob's Lilly or an Aztec lily and apparently is native to Mexico. This is its second round of flowers so it must be enjoying our tropical weather. I used this photo in the Teacher Blogging Challenge today. The topic was "What makes a good blog post". The old wooden post is part of the ornamental fence around my vegetable garden. The finished graphic was created using Comic Life on my iPad.
I do love the Zantedeschia rehmannii - Arum or Calla Lilies that are flowering in my garden at the moment. Equally I detest the greeny/white weed version that is virtually impossible to get rid of once it has found a home.
Today I had another surprise visitor in the house. I'm sure the abundance of "creatures" to be found in and around the garden is due to the mild and wet summer we are having. On the other hand I'm not sure how this little Skink got into the house. Luckily for him we were able to set him free once he had his photo taken. Occasionally we find a mummified Skink on the window sill or in a corner of the house because they haven't been able to find their way back to the garden.
We had a day at the beach at Phillip Island and as we took our usual walk along the pier we watched 3 or 4 family groups "fishing" for crabs. They would lower their baited crab nets into the sea and in no time at all they would haul it back to the pier with up to half a dozen crabs. The little crabs would be thrown back in the water but the bigger ones went in the Eski. It made me wonder how safe my toes would be if we went swimming because the sea bottom must have been crawling with the little crustaceans.
