This tiny seed ball is fascinating by itself but would have been easily missed without the macro setting on the camera. The miniature garden is growing on the wall of the vegetable garden amongst the crevices of the wooden sleeper walls
Acacia baileyana 'Purpurea' - Cootamundra WattleThe Australian Wattle is about to burst into bloom. My favourite is the wattle that has the most beautiful purple coloured foliage. It is colourful all year round with soft blue grey foliage tipped with deep purple. At the moment it is about to flower with the traditional yellow balls of blossom but you can see the bright pink stems with orange buds just to add to nature's amazing artistry. The Protea is a shrub that will have flowers nearly the whole year round. The flowers are tough and impervious to the weather so it looks gorgeous even though we've suffered through wind storms and rain the last few days.
This lovely Camellia is easily seen from my kitchen window. Just behind it is the flowering ornamental Apricot tree.
Today there was an Earthquake in Warragul. The epicenter was in Korumburra which is about 30 minutes across the hills by car. The quake or tremor measured 4.4 and was the largest one in 36 years.
When it hit the house there was a large bang and noise as if a giant washing machine had just hit the spin cycle full of wet towels. The house shook and crockery clinked in the cupboards. It was all over in a few seconds and nothing actually fell over or broke - it was quite exciting until you think of all the places where Earthquakes are far more powerful. I barely had time to realise what was happening before it was finished. It would terrifying to be in a larger quake where you had to make a decision about where you would move to in order to stay safe. I felt another mild tremor - aftershock in the middle of the night and I hope that it's over for us for another 30 or 40 years. This is your new blog post.
