One of the many varieties of salvia, this one grows to around 2 metrers with dark contrasting flower colours.
Who needs a shade house when you have a shady tree. Plants often went for a spell under a shady tree in one of the corners of the garden.
These were Mum's special iris that grew in a little pond next to the angel statue.
I love this old ladder that Mum has put in the garden just for the clematis to grow over. At one stage when Mum had to have some help in the garden she thought that the clematis had been mistaken for a weed and dug out but to Mum's delight it reappeared in spring and flowered beautifully.
I think this "Sliver Anniversary". Every year it makes a excellent show in Mum's front garden and she loves to tell the story how one of the famous TV gardeners (who shall not be named) made a point of telling his audience not to bother with "Silver Anniversary" as it is a disappointing azalea. Mum was never disappointed.
Mum has a big collection of clematis plants. She grows them with her roses over arches, along the verandah hanging from chains or just in the garden rambling over another plant.
We had a Casual Relief Teacher at school who brought along her Stick Insects to show the grade that she was teaching that day. Great pets for the classroom!
